Free and Charitable Clinics – Julie Darnell, PhD – Loyola University Chicago

Since an increasing proportion of the US population is without health insurance, a network of free clinics has gradually developed to provide care for the uninsured. Surprisingly, little is known about these clinics.

Dr. Julie Darnell is an Associate Professor in the Department of Public Sciences at Loyola University Chicago, Stritch School of Medicine. Her research focuses on access to, delivery and financing of healthcare for underprivileged populations and the safety net organization that serve them. Dr. Darnell has received several awards and recognition for her work, including the American Public Health Association, the Association for Research on Nonprofit Organizations and Voluntary Action, the Society for Social Work and Research, the Public Health System Research Interest Group of Academy Health, and the National Association of Social Workers Foundation.
