Between 2010 and 2012, acute alcohol poisoning in the U.S. resulted in 8.8 deaths per 1 million people with an average of six deaths daily.

Dr. Majid Afshar is an Assistant Professor in the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine and in Public Health Science at Loyola University, Chicago. His research focuses on examining alcohol misuse and its effect on health outcomes. Dr. Afshar has received many awards, such as the National Research Service Award (NRSA) Individual Postdoctoral F32 Fellowship and the K23 NIH/NIAAA Career Development Award.
