Apple Slices: Spring 2017

  • Apple’s Sierra Computer Operating System Upgrade

The Apple operating system Sierra has been thoroughly tested by the IT Division with Lehman College applications. Until recently there were issues with Sierra and Microsoft Office 2016. Updates to both programs have resolved these issues. Lehman College personnel can now feel free to upgrade to Sierra, but should also download the latest version of Office 2016 from IT prior to the upgrade. Adobe products, SPSS Statistics 24, MATLAB, Firefox, Chrome, Skype and other web-based utilities and Apple’s applications such as Final Cut Pro, are all compatible with the new OS. The following Macs with at least 2GB of RAM and 8.8GB of available storage can be upgraded:

* MacBook (Late 2009 or newer), MacBook Pro (Mid 2010 or newer), MacBook Air (Late 2010 or newer), Mac mini (Mid 2010 or newer), iMac (Late 2009 or newer), Mac Pro (Mid 2010 or newer).

There are a few applications that are not compatible with Sierra such as Maple, if you use any software not mentioned above please check with vendor’s website to see if it is compatible.  If you need assistance with doing the upgrade, please contact the Lehman Help Desk.
