Apple’s New Operating System

MAC-OSThere are a number of best practices that are recommended before installing upgrades.  When upgrades from any software company are first released, we suggest that you do not immediately apply them on College devices. The first versions often have bugs that are typically corrected with subsequent releases. In addition, some College software may not be compatible with the updates. The Information Technology Division tests new operating systems with commonly used applications and will advise when it is OK to apply upgrades. It is also important to check if your specific hardware can effectively use the upgrade. Sometimes, the performance of devices that are considered suitable for an upgrade can be degraded if they do not have enough RAM memory or hard drive space.

The IT Division is testing Apple’s newest operating system (OS), known as El Capitan.  Please do not upgrade to this OS until testing is complete and we can assure compatibility with the various CUNY and Lehman systems. The applications used by Lehman College work with the Yosemite operating system.  If you have not yet upgraded your Apple computer, you may go ahead and do so.  If you have questions about the age of your computer as it relates to Yosemite, or if you need assistance, please contact the Lehman Help Desk at (718) 960-1111.
