Lehman Stories

lehman-storiesStudents from across the campus have designed a new way to showcase Lehman’s amazing community. Lehman Stories is a multimedia compilation of stories, blogs and videos. These stories highlight students’ varied paths to success at Lehman College and how Lehman has had a positive impact on their lives. The pieces are informative and motivate viewers to visit the Lehman campus and explore programs and course offerings. In these stories, Lehman students are both highlighted and involved in the entire production process, from conception to final edits, creating inspiring hands-on training opportunities and internships. Should I Upgrade My Operating System?

os-upgradeIt’s often best to wait for the early bugs to be addressed before upgrading to new operating systems such as the recent release of Microsoft Windows 10 or Apple’s iOS 9 (for mobile devices) and OS X ‘El Capitan’ for newer Mac desktops and laptops. Before you decide to upgrade, consider the following: Will my hardware support the new upgrade? Will my applications run? For college-owned devices, IT continuously evaluates upgrades, testing how they interact with CUNY and Lehman applications. We now have the green light to proceed with the latest version of the mobile upgrade iOS 9.0.2 and anticipate deploying Windows 10 and ‘El Capitan’ in 2016.

Fraudulent Emails/Malware

email-phishingWe encourage the Lehman community to remain vigilant regarding the receipt of malicious email. Do not share any personal information, including passwords, with individuals or websites. If you are unsure of the authenticity of a link, don’t click on it. If you have shared your password by accident, change it by using the Lehman Password Manager, (go to ‘Login’ at the top of the Lehman home page). Lehman will never send a link asking you submit personal information or to change your password. For more information and for a useful online IT security awareness course, see CUNY’s Information Security website.

helpdeskThe IT Division is committed to improving user satisfaction and ensuring rapid resolution to user requests. TrackIt, our self-service tool, allows users to submit an IT service request online, check the status of a previously submitted request and search a knowledge base for solutions to common issues. To access the IT Service Request portal, log in to Lehman Connect and click on IT Service Request. In addition, our IT catalog of services is available online in the Lehman Connect IT site. You’ll find detailed information on the extensive portfolio of services offered by Information Technology.

Casper Suite Rollout for Apple Devices

Over the coming weeks, IT Division staff will begin enrolling college-owned Mac computers in the Casper Suite, a product of JAMF Software. The tool enables improved maintenance of Apple computers and mobile devices by facilitating inventory management and keeping computers up-to-date so students, faculty and staff can advance their work. The tool has been in use in Lehman’s Mac labs, classroom podiums and on laptop carts for the past two years. The Casper Suite is widely used in higher education and will enable a Lehman self-service “app store.” The process takes about 20 minutes, in part to review how updates will be accessible in the app store. Casper will enable system administrators to ensure Macs are current with security patches and allow users to access new software, such as the new release of Microsoft Office for Mac, in a timely manner. Mike Shur, Apple Systems Administrator for Lehman College, is coordinating the project and can be reached at 718-960-8708 or Michael.Shur@lehman.cuny.edu.

Online Equipment Reservations

female-student-32Those students, faculty, and staff who reserve equipment from Media Technology Services (MTS) in the Multimedia Center will soon be able to make equipment requests online using our Patron Initiated Reservations (PIR) portal. This reflects our goal to increase “self-service” options for students, faculty and staff and builds on last year’s introduction of a self-service portal for help desk and IT service requests. Currently, faculty and students can make equipment reservations at checkout centers located at MTS and the School of Education. The PIR portal will be accessible through Lehman One Access
