Lehman College has been named a Military Friendly School and a Top 100 Military Spouse Friendly School for 2016 by the Victory Media Company for its strong commitment to serving the veteran population. Institutions that receive the designations are highly regarded for their campus support services, graduation and employment outcomes, and military spouse policies.
The Office of Veterans and Military Affairs at Lehman is a welcome hub for veterans of all stripes. From fielding questions about admissions to helping students apply for benefits or guiding them as they seek to transition from service life to civilian life, the Office offers an oasis in a system that can seem chaotic to the uninitiated.
“This designation is an honor for the College,” says Vice President for Academic Affairs José Magdaleno. “It’s a testament to the dedication and quality of service that Ms. Thompson has provided over the years and to the College’s commitment to these men and women as they pursue a new path in life.”
The College is one of 17 within CUNY to receive the distinction. In fact, CUNY is the first public university system to earn the 2016 Military Friendly Schools status. In a statement to Victory Media Chancellor James B. Milliken said, “CUNY colleges are providing these deserving men and women with the education and skills they need to pursue careers. We are proud to help our veterans realize their goals. I want to extend congratulations and appreciation to the CUNY college presidents, faculty and staff who have made serving the educational needs of veterans a priority.”
