The Wall Street Journal: Bedford Park, in the northwest Bronx, is home to some of the borough’s premier cultural and educational institutions, a draw not lost on residents who also value the neighborhood’s relatively affordable housing stock.
The New York Botanical Garden, on the 718 acres of parkland that also includes the Bronx Zoo, is directly to the east of Bedford Park. Lehman College’s leafy 37-acre campus forms the western border.
Other area educational institutions include the Bronx High School of Science, a public magnet school, and the Academy of Mount St. Ursula, a Roman Catholic prep school. Montefiore Medical Center, to the north, and Fordham University, to the south, are just outside neighborhood boundaries but also contribute to the local economy.
