February 18, 2014 1:00 am Audio, Multimedia, Women's Studies Program

The protest group Pussy Riot is making international headlines after the release of a video showing members of the band being beaten by Russian security as they filmed a music video in Sochi, host of the Winter Olympics. The video shows five members of Pussy Riot being beaten as they try to perform in front of a wall with Sochi 2014 logos. The band mocked the Olympic games as a public relations stunt that ignores human rights violations in Russia.

In 2013, Amy Scholder and Elizabeth Koke of the Feminist Press at the City of University of New York published the book Pussy Riot: A Punk Prayer for Freedom. In this Lehman College Bookshelf discussion, Scholder and Koke participate in a question-and-answer discussion focusing on freedom of speech and feminism.
