On October 25, 2013, the CUNY Institute of Mexican Studies received funds for next year’s CUNY-IME Becas Program from the IME (Instituto de Mexicanos en el Exterior) and the Consulate of Mexico in New York. 2013 Becaria Yatziri Tovar spoke about what the Beca has meant to her, while Vice Chancellor Frank Sánchez received the check on behalf of CUNY from Ambassador Sandra Fuentes-Berain. While changes in IME policy meant that funding was reduced to $30,000 from $60,000 this year, a generous matching gift from Mr. Jaime Lucero of $30,000 means that the Institute is still be able to grant 12 scholarships for the coming year.
Applications will be available in January and due February 28, 2014.
