The Jeannette K. Watson Summer Fellowship, a three-year, paid summer internship program, is seeking new candidates. Lehman will host two information sessions for students interested in learning more about the program’s benefits on Wednesday, November 6 and November 20, at 3:30 p.m. in Room 315 of the Leonard Lief Library.

Since its launch in 1999, Lehman has consistently placed students in the Fellowship program. “This is a superb opportunity for our students because JK Watson provides exposure to a broad spectrum of advantages and benefits at a level of sophistication otherwise rarely available to them,” says Professor Gary Schwartz, director of Lehman’s Macaulay Honors College and the Lehman Scholars Program.

Current fellows include Jennifer Begazo, class of 2014, who is now studying in the CUNY Paris Program. For her first Watson summer, she interned at the New York Botanical Garden and then at Lumiere Productions during her second summer with the program. From the class of 2015 are Jasmine Miranda and Alison Wong. This past summer, Wong interned at New York Needs You and Miranda worked at The Martina Arroyo Foundation.

Many JK Watson Fellow graduates have gone on to top graduate schools: Kunchok Dolma, class of 2009, won a Clarendon Scholarship to study at Oxford University. Alice Michelle Augustine, class of 2006, won a Paul and Daisy Soros Fellowship for New Americans. She attended Loyola University New Orleans College of Law and went on to win a Fulbright grant to study in Turkey in 2009.

“There is no doubt that Lehman has reaped excellent results in developing Watson winners,” says Professor Schwartz. “We are now seeking competitive candidates who are liberal arts majors—declared and intending—who are first- and second-year students with a GPA of 3.0 and above.” Pre-professional students in accounting and business, nursing, and health administration are ineligible.

For more information, candidates are encouraged to attend the upcoming Information Sessions.
