From the big house … to the big bucks?
Formerly incarcerated men will compete for start up money for their business plans this weekend at an entrepreneurship fair for ex-cons.
The NYC Prison to Prosperity Fair’s goal is to reduce recidivism among former criminals while getting them business-ready by enhancing their job and education skills.
“Even the drug dealers we see are entrepreneurs, even if they are on the wrong side of the street,” said the Rev. Que English, one of the event’s organizers. “It’s an opportunity for them to flourish and grow their business ideas.”
The result is the one day fair, with workshops on starting your own business and the chance to pitch business ideas to a panel of business professionals.
