Lehman College Celebrates 45th Commencement Ceremony

Frances Beinecke, president of the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC), addressed more than 2,000 graduate and undergraduate students in the Lehman College class of 2013 at the College’s 45th Commencement exercises on Thursday, May 30. The ceremony was attended by family and friends of the graduates, who represent the United States and 135 other nations.

Lehman President Ricardo R. Fernández, who is completing his twenty-third year at Lehman, presided over the exercises. Joining him on the podium were Alexandra Logue, Executive Vice Chancellor and University Provost, and Freida D. Foster, a member of the Board of Trustees of the City University of New York.

Graduate student Oneida Cabaleiro delivered the student address.

Ms. Beinecke received an honorary degree, along with Dr. Fernando Picó, S.J., a respected scholar of Puerto Rican 19th century history.
