Two Lehman athletes received honors for their outstanding performance on the basketball court during the CUNY Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) and Con Edison All-Stars press luncheon, held at the Water Club in Manhattan. Freshman Jennifer Navarro was named CUNYAC Women’s Basketball Rookie of the Year and junior Kevin Gil earned Second Team All-Star honors.
Gil is now a two-time CUNYAC All-Star. He ranked third in the conference in three-point field goals made per game and ninth in field goals percentage with 34.2 percent.
Since her first day on the basketball team, Navarro has demonstrated outstanding skill. The guard led the conference in scoring through the regular season, averaging 17.3 points per game. In addition, she leads the nation in three-point field goals made per game. She finished ninth in the CUNYAC in assists (2.6) and eighth in free throw (65.8 %). She also led the conference in minutes played, with 37.5 per game.
The women’s team, which is currently the #6 seed, will travel to Staten Island to face the Dolphins in the Quarterfinal Round of the 2013 CUNYAC/ConEdison Championships on Saturday, February 16, at 3 p.m.
