The Bronx Institute at Lehman College has received a grant from New York State to provide college readiness services to three public schools in the Bronx. The schools include Gateway School for Environmental Research and Technology, New World High School, and Renaissance High School for Musical Theater and Technology.
The grant will serve students in grades 10, 11, and 12. Students will receive test preparation training in the NYS Regents exams, PSAT, and SATs, as well as parent and student workshops on financial literacy and the college application process.
“These funds will be used to help students and their families prepare for college and a career,” said Professor Herminio Martinez, executive director of The Bronx Institute and a faculty member in the Department of Middle and High School Education. “We are very grateful to New York State for supporting this important work.”
The Institute’s approach places advisors in each school, where, with the support of school administrators, parents, and students, they become part of the school community and effective instructors. An on-site presence helps the advisors understand the specific needs of each student and tailor their services to achieve their goals.
