For the second year in a row, the Office of Alumni Relations is bringing the Richard Tucker Foundation with two rising stars of the Metropolitan Opera to Lehman College for a special performance. The concert, which will be followed by a Q&A with the two singers, mezzo-soprano Emily Fons and bass-baritone, Ryan Speedo Green, will be held at the Lehman Multimedia Center in Carman Hall on Dec. 5 at 4:30 p.m. Pianist Earl Buys will accompany the singers; composer Mark Adamo (Little Women, Lysistrata or the Nude Goddess, and The Gospel of Mary Magdalene) will serve as the event’s moderator. The event is free and open to the public, but RSVPs are required.
Ryan Speedo Green was among the five winners of the 2011 Metropolitan National Council Auditions and is also a member of the Lindemann Young Artist Development Program at the Met. A native of Virginia, Green has overcome many obstacles to take his place onstage where, in recent years he has performed in Turandot (at the Met) and Porgy and Bess (with the Berlin Philharmonic). During her young career, Emily Fons has been known as an interpreter of Mozart, baroque music and modern composers. She has performed as Cherubino in Le Nozze di Figaro (with the Sante Fe Opera) and as Megacle in L’Olimpade (with the Garsington Opera). She was a semi-finalist in the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions in 2010.
The concert is produced by the Office of Alumni Relations and the Multimedia Center with the Richard Tucker Foundation, a non-profit cultural organization founded in 1975. The organization’s mission is to perpetuate the artistic legacy of the great American tenor for which it is named. The foundation supports the careers of talented American opera singers by bringing opera into the community and broadening its appeal to new audiences.
