Lehman’s new women’s soccer team defeated the Yeshiva Maccabees 4-1 in the team’s first game of the season.

The newly formed Lightning team took to the field with much of the anxiety and pressure most new teams face, but that didn’t faze freshman middle forward Juliana Generoso, who scored two goals for Lehman. The first one happened within two minutes of kick-off as she sped down the mid-field and blasted the ball passed the goalie and into the net. Lehman held the 1-0 lead for the rest of the first half.

The Yeshiva players tried to redeem themselves in the second half—at the four-minute mark, the Maccabees’ Natasha Basalion shot one goal passed Lehman’s goalie, tying the game. Later on, Lehman’s Samantha Dias took a corner kick for the Lightning’s possession, crossing the ball to Generoso who ripped it straight into the net, earning her second goal and boosting the lead 2-1.

Less than two minutes later, freshman forward Tiffany Altamirano placed a shot into the right corner of the net for another goal. Altamirano continued to impress as she stole the ball from Yeshiva and effortlessly kicked it past the goalie’s box.
