EdCast, CUNY-TV’s education-focused monthly program with Dr. Linda Hirsch of Hostos Community College and Professor Jim Carney (JCT), has won a 2012 Telly Award for its program, “Battling Bullying.” The Telly Awards honor excellence in cable television programming.

In “Battling Bullying,” the program focused on what schools, parents, and kids can do to combat bullying. Professor Carney, who also serves as a producer on the show, paid a visit to Dr. Stuart Chen-Hayes (CLLSE), a leader in counselor education at Lehman to learn how teachers and administrators are trained to recognize and deal with bullying in a school environment and beyond.

Dr. Hirsch, also a co-producer of the show, interviewed Mark Weiss of Operation Respect, an organization founded by Peter Yarrow of the folk group Peter, Paul, and Mary to assure each child a safe and compassionate learning environment.

She also conducted a Skype interview with Rosalind Wiseman, author of Queen Bees and Wannabes, the basis for the film Mean Girls, to discuss bullying and gender and what parents can do to help children defend against bullying both in and outside the classroom.

Jerold Barnard, media technology manager for Lehman’s Information Technology Division, is the show’s executive producer.

EdCast airs on CUNY-TV Channel 75 Time Warner Cable and BronxNet’s Channel 67 on Cablevision.
