The campus community is invited to attend Lehman’s 9/11 Commemoration, which will be held on Tuesday, September 11, at 11 a.m., along College Walk outside Shuster Hall in front of the campus 9/11 memorial.
This year’s ceremony will begin with a presentation of the colors by the Army ROTC Color Guard from Fordham University. Next, the Lehman College community will join Osceola Davis and Prof. Penny Prince on piano in a performance of the The Star Spangled Banner.
Speakers will include Erica Matthews, executive assistant to the Dean of Arts and Humanities, giving welcoming remarks; William Hill, associate director of Financial Aid, delivering the invocation; and President Ricardo R. Fernández.
Concluding the ceremony, Armando Rodriguez, a faculty member at the High School of American Studies at Lehman College, will play TAPS, and a member of Lehman’s Public Safety staff will ring the memorial bell. The bell was presented by the U.S. Navy at the end of WWII in recognition of the role of the campus as the national training site for the WAVES (Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Services).
Lehman College has commemorated the 9/11 attacks with a campus ceremony each year since 2001.
