The new CUNY Institute of Mexican Studies will celebrate its launch at a festive ceremony on Tuesday, June 26, at 6 p.m. in the Proshansky Auditorium of the CUNY Graduate Center at 365 Fifth Avenue. The free event, which is cosponsored by CUNY and the Mexican Consul General’s Office in New York, is open to the public, but reservations are required at http://cunymexstudiescelebratorylaunch.eventbrite.com/.
The Institute, headquartered at Lehman College, is the first center of its kind east of the Mississippi. Among its many projects, it plans to promote study-abroad programs to Mexico, establish a Carlos Fuentes visiting professorship—named for the internationally acclaimed Mexican novelist who recently died—and work toward formation of a scholarship endowment.
