The Lehman College Community Band will give its final performance of the spring season on Sunday, May 20, at 2 p.m. in the Lovinger Theatre. This performance is free and open to the community.

Titled “America’s Pastime,” the Lehman College Community Band’s concert will feature a mix of popular selections for wind band, including Leonard Bernstein’s ever-popular Overture to Candide, a transcription of J.S. Bach’s monumental work for organ Passacaglia and Fugue in C-minor and Dmitri Shostakovich’s Festive Overture.

The band will also perform several folksong-themed works, including Shostakovich’s Folk Dances, Percy Grainger’s Irish Tune from County Derry and Shepherd’s Hey, and contemporary composer Jan Van der Roost’s Puzta.

Rounding out the program will be a special guest performance by the winner of the 2012 Jerome Sala Memorial Competition, flutist Christine Dookie from Celia Cruz Bronx High School of Music, who will perform twentieth-century composer Charles T. Griffes’ Poem for Flute and Band.
