New York City Schools Chancellor Dennis M. Walcott will deliver the keynote address at the Fourth Annual CUNitY Educational Summit on Wednesday, March 14, from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. in the Lovinger Theatre. Sponsored by Lehman’s Urban Male Leadership Program, this event is free and open to the community.
This year’s theme for the summit is “Educate to Innovate: Renewing Your Passport to Success.” Scheduled afternoon workshops will focus on helping students make a successful transition to higher education and understanding the required general tests for higher education, including the ACT, SAT, GRE, LSAT, and MCAT. Another workshop will examine the hip-hop generation’s views on higher education. Finally, the summit will offer participants resources aimed at helping them continue on their path to success.
Appointed to the New York City Schools Chancellor’s position in 2011 by Mayor Bloomberg, Chancellor Walcott previously served as the City’s Deputy Mayor for Education and Community Development for more than eight years. As Chancellor, he oversees some 1,700 schools and is committed to cultivating teacher talent; expanding school choices for families; creating strong partnerships with parents; and preparing students to graduate from high school and pursue higher education.
