Professor Stuart Chen-Hayes (Counseling, Leadership, Literacy, and Special Education) was interviewed by a local news station in San Diego during the LBGTIQA Educator conference held there last week. Professor Chen-Hayes co-conceived the conference four years ago, and attendance has grown to its current 500 attendees. He has presented or keynoted annually at the meeting, and this time both he and his family made a presentation on “Empowering Culturally and Linguistically Diverse LBGTIQQA Students and Families in K-8 Schools in Taiwan and the USA.”

The presentation shared their story and activism in two countries (the U.S. and Taiwan), as well as evidence-based practice tools/models for school counselors and all educators on SIECUS comprehensive sexuality education guidelines, Welcoming Schools curriculum, GroundSpark’s Respect for all videos, School-Family-Community partnership, and the American School Counselor Association Standards & Program Model. His son Kalani participated by presenting on LBGT characters in children’s picture and chapter books and middle- and high school chapter books.
